Denver, CO – Intertech Plastics, Inc. (“Intertech”), a high volume, high cavitation custom injection molder, has received second place in the 2018 MAPP Innovation Award. This was the fourth such program for MAPP (The Manufacturers Association for Plastic Processors, Inc.) and focused on recognizing best practices in defect detection.
Intertech was recognized for its array automation cell, which the company developed as a solution to streamline an extremely high exposure program for its largest customer that involved 9.6 million parts annually with several different injection molding processing concerns. The newly automated cell not only exceeded the customer’s new specifications, but it also reduced scrap from as high as 48 percent to less than 2 percent.
“We are very honored to have been recognized by our peers for the development of our array automation cell. By collaborating with our automation suppliers, we were able to develop a solution that will not only provide significant benefits to our customer, but also deliver huge benefits for us internally,” said Jim Kepler, president of Intertech Plastics. “These include a reduced need for quality inspection on the CMM by quality technicians, higher visibility into process control and quality data collection, and reduced frequency of product returns and packaging reworks occurrences.”
This is the second consecutive year in which Intertech was recognized through the MAPP Innovation Award. In 2017, Intertech was awarded first place in the program that was focused on automation, for how it automated a medical molding cell that relies on integrated process control and automated quality inspection to achieve zero defects.
Intertech Plastics is at the forefront of automated quality compliance solutions, focused on providing customers with repeatable performance, zero defects, and 100 percent on-time delivery. Through technology and innovation, the company is able to build quality control into its processes while optimizing shop floor efficiency.
