Case Study - Plastics IML vs. Adhesive Labeling

IML delivers better, more appealing packaging

Situation

In the consumer product industry, branding is an important part of the business, so having the ability to customize packaging can differentiate a product from its competition as well as be more appealing to the end consumer. Traditionally, companies produce plastic packaging and affix adhesive labels in a separate step. It can be costly to invest in the equipment required, time intensive to assemble the labels, and challenging to have consistency in label location.

Intertech Solution

To provide customers with premium customization and a low cost, Intertech has invested in in-mold labeling (IML). By adhering the label during the product development process, the label placement and quality are better and more consistent, there is no need to invest in additional technology or labor and the costs are slightly less. Additionally, with IML the label is made from the same materials as the packaging so the full product is recyclable (i.e., the label does not need to be removed).
